Amazing Spider-Man #9 - Electro

Today I received my Chrstimas gift in the mail: Amazing Spider-Man #9 that I bought on Ebay.  It's about G/VG, and I paid just under guide for it, although I think Overstreet might be low on this issue based on what I'm seeing on Ebay.

It's tough to find a lower grade book of this issue that still has some decent eye appeal, is complete, and not held together with tape.  This issue is exactly the type of low grade book I look for.

With the addition of this book, I am down to needing just three issues: 1, 3 and 6.

Upgrading My Amazing Spider-Man #34

When I have a too much free time, I end up on Ebay and the CGC message boards.  About a week ago I was on the CGC site and came across a decent upgrade to my Amazing Spider-Man #34, which I've wanted to upgrade for a long time.  I haven't wanted to pay $50+, so I was happy to find this was one $30 shipped.

As you can see, it's a nice upgrade to my old copy, which I'll probably sell on Ebay.

Another Silver Batman

I haven't done much collecting at all, including Star Wars or baseball autographs, but today I decided to take a trip over to Cedar Cliff Collectibles in Eagan, MN and picked up a decent copy of Batman #158.

I paid a little more than half of Overstreet, so it wasn't a huge bargain, but a reasonable price.

I also picked up a copy of Marvel Star Wars #'s 1 and 3 for a good price as well.

An Upgrade to my Amazing Spider-Man #17

Today I received a comic I bought from  It's the Amazing Spider-Man #17 which contains the second appearance of the Green Goblin. listed the grade on this as Good.  I looked at the picture online and was really surprised that it wasn't graded higher.  I checked several times that the picture was the actual comic, and not a stock photo.  There are no creases on the cover, no pieces missing, no writing (other than a date written on the back cover).

So, I bought it to upgrade my existing copy, which I think is graded as Good.  I actually expected to get a different comic in the picture, assuming they had made a mistake with the image, or that there would be some flaws in the interior that would lower the grade.

But, I'm REALLY happy with this book.  Even though I really don't know much about grading, I think this would be VG or possibly even Fine.  The interior pages are one shade worse than off-white, but certainly aren't brittle.

Now I need to check their site for more books I need!

I am going to sell my old copy to help fund this one.  I've included a scan of each for comparison.

Amazing Spider-Man #5!

Thanks to my wife and the Ebay gift card she gave me for Christmas, I've knocked another Amazing Spider-Man off the want-list.

I picked up an Amazing Spider-Man #5, in pretty decent shape.  It's missing the upper and lower corners of the front cover, and the cover is a bit brittle, but is free of creases and has some nice gloss.

Now I just need #'s 1, 3, 6 and 9.

Strangle Tales #106 - Fantastic Four Appearance

Has it really been eight months since I posted to this blog?  Wow.

I haven't been buying a lot of comics lately.  Or much of anything, really.  I've recently decided to start cataloging my Star Wars toy collection and I might start a blog for that as well.

Anyway, back in June I took my son to Ames, Iowa on a campus visit to Iowa State.  While there, I stopped in to Mayhem Comics and picked up a copy of Strange Tales #106.

It features a Fantastic Four appearance, as well as the first appearance of the Acrobat (who?).

X-Men #6

I haven't been buying many comics lately.  For some reason, I was watching the CGC boards and ended up buying a decent copy of X-Men #6.

The price of silver age comics has gotten pretty crazy, so I can't bring myself to buy many.  Have you seen what Fantastic Four #45 is going for?  It's the first appearance of The Inhumans.  I think my lower/mid grade copy would probably sell for over $200.  Crazy.
